Weddings In Goa
In the last decade, Goa has slowly become the new hub for destination weddings. With exotic beach side venues, opulent hotels that cater to the couples every need and the opportunity to have an outdoor sunset wedding with a view of the waves kissing the shore, Goa becomes the prime choice for couples to host their dream wedding. Most of the venues need only a little décor to emphasize their natural scenic beauty and hence besides being a beautiful and exotic wedding destination it can also end up being an economical one.
One might think that Goa is a hot zone for weddings only for a few months of the year as it experiences monsoons for the remainder, but monsoon weddings are the latest fad. The lush green fields along with palms gently dancing in the rain make it a dream setting for wedding photographers while the amazing monsoon offers thrown in by hotels and the pleasant dewy petrichor lingering in the air after a downpour make Goa equally desirable during the monsoons.
If Goa has been zeroed in as the destination, then finding a venue to have your fairy tale wedding at should be a piece of cake. There’s a huge array to choose from, including seashore lawns, hotels with private beaches and quaint indoor halls with picturesque views, however the choice would also depend on your guest list and whether you want an intimate function with only your near and dear ones or want to go all out and have a big fat Goan wedding.
There’s a lot that goes into executing a destination wedding and it’s often best to hire a planner to handle the entire event. Couples should discuss the basics with them and then leave the executing to the professionals. Some of the points they should discuss include the average cost of the wedding, whether there would be one or multiple points of contact to handle the décor, service and other aspects as also who would coordinate timings, communicate with vendors, handle transport etc. Other things to be discussed could include suggestions for wedding venues based on the requirements as also the best mode of communication with the planner, method of payment and discounts if any.
Most couples want to do things differently and want to set new trends, thus keeping wedding planners on their toes, coming up with novel ideas. Wedding planners go all out to make this day as smooth as possible for the couple by helping them with their room bookings, selection of the venue as well as menu, coordination of guest’s pickups as well as finer details like flowers and centerpieces. Another trend that seems to have taken couples by storm is themed parties, most especially for the pre-wedding bashes like the bachelor/bachelorette parties or the Mehendi and Sangeet ceremonies. A lot of couples also like to make their wedding a 2 or 3 day affair with differently themed intimate functions on each day. Themed parties really set the tone for the big day as they help the guests channelize their excitement creatively.
Seemingly, the ideal time to have a wedding in Goa is between the months of October to April as one can be assured of pleasant weather along with clear skies. Since couples primarily choose Goa as a destination for their wedding because of the myriad open air venues with amazing views of sun, sand, surf and turf, it would be a shame to have a wedding in months when the weather is not conducive to doing so, forcing the couple to choose an indoor venue. However, as mentioned above, if a pool or beach side monsoon wedding is what one is looking for, the months from June to September are ideal as they coincide with the monsoon season in Goa. It might seem like a tall order to want an outdoor wedding while staying dry, however wedding planners nowadays make provisions for a small gathering to party under waterproof gazebos installed on lawns.
While selecting a wedding venue, one might want to keep in mind that one with multiple locations within the same property is ideal, especially when smaller pre or post wedding functions are part of the affair. Also by choosing a starred hotel as the wedding venue, a lot of things get taken care of such as the parking, seating, licensing and catering which otherwise might have to be individually seen.
If on a limited budget, instead of going for a seaside venue which costs quite a bit, pick something a little away but has multiple outdoor locations for your functions and is at least driving distance to the seashore. A couple of things to keep in mind besides the season, are the weather in Goa as it tends to be quite humid, as also the time around which the sun sets during your wedding month. This is very important in order to plan your photo shoot and is also crucial to know if one wants a sunset wedding.
Once the wedding dates have been selected, a lot of planning ensues which requires a lot of communication and coordination with wedding planners. There are several planners to choose from who have a number of vendors working with them and are thus able to take care of all the couple’s needs. Depending on the kind of décor that the couple would like, florists, balloon artists, lighting experts and the like can be hired. The same goes for the catering, as depending upon the cuisine preferred by the couple, the menu can be planned and executed with finesse. We all know that if the music is great, guests will be happy and party all night long and hence great care needs to be taken by the planner in selecting the right band/DJ for the occasion. Last but not the least, make sure that an engaging Master of Ceremonies is hired to compère, as one can make or break the function.
